Welcome to Axbridge Deanery

Richard

Axbridge Deanery consists of Church of England parishes that stretch from Priddy up on the Mendips in the east to Burnham on Sea in the west, encompassing small villages, market towns, the Cheddar Valley and part of the north Somerset coast.

Whether you are visiting this website to find out more about who we are or you are church member needing information, we hope that you will be engaged by what you find here.

As you explore this website you will discover that Axbridge Deanery is an interesting and exciting place to be and to minister. We enjoy working together across parish boundaries to support key events in our deanery year. We actively encourage training and learning together. We share our experiences from across the deanery to learn from each other in our different contexts.

The deanery is at the heart of tourism in Somerset. Our population rises by tens of thousands throughout the summer. We are seeking ways to be supportive and welcoming to our visitors in the hope that their journey may become a time of pilgrimage and discovery. Agriculture and farming are also key industries. Highbridge also hosts a small but significant industrial area. Every parish in our deanery has a link with a school, and our ministry with young people and families is very important to us. We also help run two foodbanks in our area to cover the whole of our deanery with collection points in all of our churches.

What we are hoping to achieve together you will find articulated in our Deanery Mission Plan; what happens when we meet together can be found if you look at Deanery Synod; for the means by which we resource each other, look at ‘Equipping the Church’. There are also useful sections giving meaning to many of those churchy words that can be confusing and a link to websites of all the parishes we represent.

Enjoy!
